The Values of Integrity and Ethical behaviour

The Malta Federation of Professional Associations (MFPA) representing 17 professional associations is bound by values of integrity and ethical behaviour and feels the need to put across our ethical position. The one thing that binds us together as professional associations is our pledge to the higher values of integrity and ethical conduct in our practice. These values are enshrined in the individual profession’s code of ethics and form an integral part of the warrant commitment intended to safeguard society at large.

Integrity, ethical behaviour and rule of law ensure that good governance prevails. Ethics encompasses good moral principles that should guide professionals in whatever position they may hold. Likewise politicians entrusted with the administration of the country are dual bound with the code of ethics for parliamentarians and in many cases also their professional code of ethics. Moreover, all citizens at any level of society, professionals or not, should not succumb to moral divestment.

The promotion of professional ethics has been at the forefront of the MFPA’s agenda with a number of initiatives. Last year a survey conducted by the MFPA amongst university students and recent graduates established that, 91 percent of the respondents believed that the topic of ethics was not being given enough importance and that this should be addressed.

As a Federation we are committed to continue investing in strengthening the moral and ethical behaviour of all professionals and the professionals of tomorrow. The same importance that we are placing on the upholding of ethical behaviour has also to be reflected in the nations governing institutions in order to safeguard the stability and sustained economic growth of the country.
