Brief overview

The human body is a fascinating machine the mechanics of which are taken

for granted. The voice is no exception and one only decides to take care of it

and maintain it when problems arise. In fact it is a complex organ that is

brought into action a thousand times daily at varying degrees. Its function is

surrounded by several myths. For instance several people think that only

singers and actors require vocal warm up or that the fatter one is the

stronger the voice will be. It is also often thought that persistent hoarseness

does not mean there is anything wrong with the individual’s health. And

what about vocal health? What should one feed the voice and what is the

best environment for a strong voice? Together we will explore this

marvellous instrument and discover which of the above statements are

correct. This talk will be both informative and practical and is relevant to

anyone who talks!

Ms. Norma Camilleri, a registered speech language pathologist and a

member of the Association of Speech Language Pathologists will be tackling

this subject in the second of a series of talks by professionals, organised by

the Federation of Professional Bodies, aimed at the general public.
