First Lady President for the Malta Federation of Professional Associations – 09/03/2011
Malta Federation of Professional Associations elects New Council
During an EGM of the Malta Federation of Professional Associations held on 8th March 2011. Ing Helga Pizzuto was elected President of the MFPA.
Ing Pizzuto currently holds the position of Chief Technology Officer with the Malta Communications Authority. Prior to this position, she has held a number of senior posts within the local electronics manufacturing and telecommunications industries. She has also held the position of head of the Management Efficiency Unit, government’s in-house consultancy group and provided independent consultancy services for a number of years. Ing Pizzuto was also President of the Chamber of Engineers for four years between 2006 and 2010. She is married and has a son.
In her address she thanked the outgoing President Mr Benjamin Rizzo for his sterling contribution to the Federation and outlined her vision for the Federation during her tenure. ‘I am honoured to have been entrusted by my fellow colleagues with this responsibility. I am fully committed to this role and am convinced of the importance of the Federation to all professions in Malta. I encourage more representative bodies to join the Federation and look forward to a fruitful year ahead.’ She stated.

Phil (Malta Chamber of Pharmacists) Vice President; Mr. Benjamin Rizzo ACMA FIA (Malta Institute of Accountants) Vice President; Ms. Gertrude A. Buttigieg CommTh, BSc(Hons), PQDip, MSc . (Association of Speech-Language Pathologists) Hon. Secretary; Dr. Paula Vassallo BChD.,MSc (Lond).,DDPH RCS (Eng)., MBA(Warwick) (Dental Association of Malta) Hon. Treasurer.
The Federation’s aims are amongst other to promote the professions and to maintain their standards and to contribute towards the advancement of the interests of society by maintaining high professional standards.
The newly formed Council aims to keep working on the projects in hand, especially the promotion of the professional card. It will also maintain an active participation in relevant discussions at EU level through its affiliation with the European Council of the Liberal Professions (CEPLIS). As part of its programme it intends to continue to identify new areas of common interest where the Federation can play an instrumental role and to facilitate the exchange of best practices across the member associations.
