The Association of Podiatrists of Malta (APM)
The Association of Podiatrists of Malta (APM) (AD.1999) is a non-profit, apolitical professional organisation that represents Podiatrists practicing the Podiatry profession in Malta.
The Podiatry profession in Malta is a relatively new field of health care with the first graduates in this field only becoming state registered in the late 1980’s. As a result during the late eighties and early nineties although the need of commencing an Association for Podiatrists was recognised the number of Podiatrists was still low and therefore this ‘dream’ of these early Podiatrists was not possible.
During the late nineties as the University of Malta opened more Podiatry courses the number of Podiatrists increased and therefore the idea of forming a uniting association for all these professionals was slowly becoming a concrete and factual idea. As a result and during the first Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) held on the 20th December 1999 the association was founded and the first committee was elected with Dr. Alfred Gatt becoming the first present of the association.
